Crime & Deviance

Crime : An act that is illegal
Deviance: Behaviour that is seen as not normal and does not conform to societies norms and values.

Crime and deviance can be linked because there are acts that are illegal and do not conform to society. For example, murder.
However, some crimes are not deviant. For example, piracy is a crime but many people do it. Also, using a mobile phone whilst driving is illegal but most drivers do it.
Deviant behaviour is not always illegal. For example, being loud on the bus is not illegal but it is deviant as it is not acceptable.
